Hot Yoga Instructors

All of our instructors hold current certification/recertification from Bikram Choudury and have completed his intensive teacher training course. All are required to maintain the integrity of Bikram’s Yoga system, the teaching methods and his dialogue so that your experience in a Bikram Yoga class will be safe and consistent. We teach Bikram’s Beginning Yoga Sequence exclusively and authentically. We encourage our teachers to continue their journey of learning and development and to maintain their own yoga practice.

Hi, Luke here.  I am glad you are looking into taking class at our studio here in Auckland.  I am certain all of us are looking forward to meeting you, and exploring this wonderful bikram yoga that we have all grown with over the years.  I have been practicing bikram yoga daily since 2000, and started teaching in 2002, after doing the teacher training with good ole Dave and Andy, our studio owners.  I have since owned and operated my own studio in new york, which I sold in 2007 to work full time for Bikram Choudhury, teacher to us all, and the originator of Bikram Yoga.  I have taught at schools in Europe, all over the United States, Mexico, Australia and everywhere here in New Zealand, leaving me somewhere to the tune of having taught around 5,000 of these classes!  I look forward to bringing some of this experience into the room, and helping you get started with your yoga journey.  Believe me when i say, there is no telling where it will lead, and no limit on how far you can go, as long as you make up your mind, 110%, and remember to have fun along the way.

Nadine Mesnage

Hi my name is Nadine.  I have practiced all types of yoga for all of my adult life, finally discovering Bikram yoga 9 years ago.  The heat is the difference for me; it is what really connected my mind to my body.   I have been a Bikram teacher since 2005 and can categorically say that it is the most satisfying job I have had.  I am inspired daily by the work and dedication that students put into themselves in that hot room; it is not an easy task, but a regular practice changes us all in the right way.  Stick with Bikram yoga and develop your powers of concentration, determination, faith and patience; you will see that there are no limits.  See you in class!

Hi, I'm Kate. I graduated from Teacher Training 2010 in Las Vegas, Nevada. I started practicing Bikram Yoga early 2007. I was suffering from a few shoulder injuries, and I have a family history of scoliosis - so doing something good for my back and posture was and always will be very important to me.

From my very first class, I remember loving the heat and the challenge. I was always motivated to come back by my wonderful teachers. I found them to be so inspiring and encouraging. The changes I began to see in myself - mentally, physically and emotionally, were amazing. I began to cope much better under stressful situations and found my overall attitude towards life to be a lot more relaxed and positive. I knew I wanted to be more involved with the yoga pretty soon into my practice, and finally 3 years later I made it to Teacher Training.

Bikram Yoga continues to positively affect every aspect of my life, I am so grateful for all the teachers who have been a part of my journey - I hope to be just as inspiring, encouraging and supportive to my students. See you in class! :) Kate

David Edwards

I discovered Bikram Yoga while travelling and working as a builder in the United States. Several work related injuries left me with chronic back and neck pain. Although I followed a regular exercise routine prescribed by a physiotherapist with mild relief, I was still left searching for something more effective and long lasting. I was prepared to try anything to get relief. Relief came in the form of my first Bikram Yoga class in Oakland, California. The results were profound and immediate. I was also drawn to the physical and mental challenge of the series as well. After practicing in the SF Bay Area for two years I attended the teacher training with Bikram in Los Angeles. Having experienced first hand its tremendous healing benefits I wanted to come home and share this yoga with New Zealanders.

I happened upon Bikram Yoga entirely by chance when the gym I attended was sold. Memberships were re-routed to another gym two doors down from a Bikram Yoga Studio. I had previously taken yoga classes through the YMCA and enjoyed the peace of mind that followed the classes although I did not feel physically challenged. I was interested in resuming my yoga practice but didn’t know exactly where to begin. After passing the Bikram Studio on my way to the gym for several weeks I decided to give it a try. Not knowing what to expect I was totally unprepared for the impact that first class would have on me. I left the class feeling like I had just found something I had been looking for a long time. Never really being inspired to workout at a gym I felt completely empowered after my first Bikram Yoga class and confident that this was something I never wanted to be with out. I didn’t necessarily have any specific physical complaints that I was trying to fix but I was living a busy life with an enjoyable but stressful job as a Speech Language Therapist in the Public School System. It didn’t take long for me to notice my energy levels improving, my overall attitude towards the daily challenges of life in a big city becoming more positive and constructive and just generally feeling better than I had ever felt before. Several months later I realized I hadn’t used my asthma inhaler for months and I now no longer use the allergy medicine I had previously taken on a daily basis. It was the combination of all of these things and my teaching spirit that fuelled my desire to take my own yoga practice to a higher level and attend the teacher training in LA with Bikram. I have now been teaching for almost ten years here in Auckland and I love teaching Bikram Yoga as much as I love to practice it. It is inspiring to watch the transformation that takes place when students are in the hot room.
